Multicultural Night

Tonight we celebrate all of the cultures represented at Paxton Keeley. Our class decorated our door to show our support for all of our friends.

Getting to Know Our Chicks

This was our last (and 12th) chick to hatch. The kids named him Warrior because they weren't sure if he was going to hatch. It turns out he's quite a little survivor! 

Welcome Chicks!

When we left school on Monday, three eggs had small cracks. Then, when we returned on Tuesday morning, seven chicks had completely hatched. Happy birthday to our little ones! 

Throughout the day, four more hatched from their eggs, making a total of eleven. Here you can see a chick who just emerged from the shell (far left). 

We are excited to see what the rest of the week will bring!

Bottle Ecosystems

Our most recent science unit is an exploration of ecosystems. We learned there are 4 parts to an ecosystem: animals, plants, decomposers, and non-living things. These bottles contain all four parts including water, soil, grass, fish, snails, gravel, worms, and a water plant. Our bottles have been self sustaining. For two weeks we haven't had to feed the animals or water the plants, and everything is still alive. Take a look:

What's your New Year's resolution? Our class has been working on writing goals for the new year. My goal is to post plenty of photos and updates to our class blog.
